Bill and June Hilbert proudly announce the birth of their first calf of the fall, 2013, calving season: a heifer born to first-calf heifer #20 on August 20th. Augusta was chosen as the calf's name, Gussie for short. Weight and height information are not available. New Mama #20 was patient about the ear tag piercing, but any further handling would definitely not be tolerated. The calf is somewhat scrawny, but has a voracious appetite and is expected to gain well. Bill's comment was, "A scrawny live calf is better than a big dead calf!" Gussie is a black Angus/Gelbvieh mix. Mother and daughter are doing splendidly!

Thanks, Tyler! I've been messing with my website and changed the "I Am a Farm Wife" page to show the entire essay, instead of adding a couple of lines as I have pictures to illustrate. I will use the individual lines and pictures in my blog.
